What is Homeopathy Homeopathy is a fairly modern form of alternative/complementary medicine which was developed by the German doctor, chemist and linguist Samuel Hahnemann in the late 18th century. Hahnemann observed that a medicine which in a healthy person produces a certain set of symptoms can cure a person with a similar set of symptoms - Like cures Like. Homeopathic Remedies Homeopathic Remedies are made from a wide range of materials - including herbal, mineral and animal sources - through a process called potentisation. Potentisation is a series of dilution and succussion. For example, a remedy from a herbal source is made as follows: 1. The whole plant is chopped up and steeped in alcohol for 14 days. 2. The mixture is strained and the remaining clear liquid is the mothertincture from which the remedy will be prepared. 3. 1 drop of mothertincture is added to a 99 drop water/alcohol mixture which is then successed. This creates the first potency: 1C. 4. To create 2C potency one drop is taken from the 1C mixture and added to a fresh water/alcohol mixture. This new mixture is succussed and this is the second potency: 2C. 5. The diluted, succussed remedy is added to a bottle of lactose (milk sugar) carrier pills. Note: Children respond particularly well to Homeopathy as childhood is an important time for the body to absorb information and learn how to defend itself against illnesses. The effectiveness of Homeopathy can be influenced by the level of drugging the patient is exposed to or by the degree of physical degeneration that has taken place. Some people turn to Homeopathy as a last resort or if they have been told there is nothing wrong with them. An increasing number of people are using Homeopathic remedies for first aid situations and acute conditions as well as more serious health problems. Many people continue regular visits to their Homeopath simply to maintain and promote their health.
